My mom had a decorative plate with the saying “Today is the tomorrow you worried about yesterday.” As a child I had no idea what that meant, because I had no worries.

Somewhere along the way I picked up the habit of making mountains out of molehills. I learned to manufacture a worry and build it up into a problem with no solution. Needless to say I was always frustrated and anxious.

Thankfully I have learned that worry is a futile attempt to control the uncontrollable. Worry steals my joy and zaps my energy. Worry today will not change my tomorrow.

However, tomorrow is not here yet. Today is all I have. And God gives me grace for today only.
Instead of worrying, I can turn my cares over to God who is in control. Then I can pray about my situation, trusting that God has a solution. Letting go allows God to work. When the time comes I can do my part.

As I clear my mind of worry and fear, creative solutions may come to mind.

Rather than worrying about the present, or conjuring up what-ifs that may never happen, I can choose to stay in the present, enjoy the day, and let God take care of today and tomorrow.

Yes, letting go takes practice and there are times when I struggle more than others.

But as I let go of anxious worries, I can hear the birds sing and see more clearly the parade of blossoms unfolding with the arrival of a new spring day.

Bible Verse

Matthew 6:26-34 New International Version (NIV)
26 Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? 27 Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life?

28 “And why do you worry about clothes? See how the flowers of the field grow. They do not labor or spin. 29 Yet I tell you that not even Solomon in all his splendor was dressed like one of these. 30 If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today and tomorrow is thrown into the fire, will he not much more clothe you—you of little faith? 31 So do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ 32 For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them. 33 But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. 34 Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.

Today’s Glory

My Beloved, enter into the Garden of My Presence. Let every anxiety and worry fall away. I know all of our needs as well as the desires of your heart. I delight in providing for your needs just as I do the birds of the air. Delight in my presence and the fullness of my joy. My joy is your strength to rise above the worry. Your worry is a useless waste of precious energy. Let your worries go in the wake of My Glory. Take one day at a time, being careful not to look ahead. All you have is today. Tomorrow is unknown. I have all of your day today and all of your tomorrows. Rejoice, My Beloved, in the Glory of My Presence.

  1. Bill’s father heard a sermon on these scriptures. From then on, he would say that he did not worry a situation, he was only “concerned”. LOL!
