outdoor basking

Forest bathing sounds like a nice retreat. Pine trees invite the filtered sun, and the pine needles cushion the path. Evergreen scent fills the air.  A picture of serene peace forms in the mind.

But sometime a forest isn’t available. What then? Maybe outdoor basking is more appropriate —anywhere out of doors will do. Emersion into the surrounding environment as a steady stream of sunshine bounces off the skin. And the breeze touches sweat on the brow of a hot day. Or maybe threatening storm clouds build in July heat, while the front brings in a cool breeze.

All senses heighten to the beauty that embraces. The feel grass on bare toes, as the smell of fresh air fills nostrils. Birds tweet their song, interrupting the silent hush of the outside world.

Outdoor Basking Today

And today my morning is greeted with new blooms that debut a grand show. Saucer sized, pink beauties that wow my gaze.

The out-of-doors space is a safe place to dream and invite the creative spirit God placed within each of us. Inherent in our DNA code is His creative gift complete with a creative impulse that yearns to be expressed.

My outdoor sanctuary is complete with spring and summer perennials bursting forth with ample buds ready to bloom. More than usual rainfall for July seems to extend the flowering season and the grass in the hay meadow is ready for harvest. Looks like a good year for baling hay.

Recently I had the opportunity to visit to an old friend of my mother’s and her son and daughter-in-law.  Their outdoor sanctuary was inviting. I embraced the paradise and recognized the sacred space created and nurtured by the couple. The environment burgeoned with creative expression as my eyes attempted to capture each image. A bloom here, shade loving ground cover here and everywhere—echoes of an open-air Eden beckoned all to sit, relax and talk of nothing and everything. To enjoy outdoor basking.

The indoor space equally inviting.  A fantastical array of collected favorites garnished walls in all available spaces. Expressions of inner beauty and self, embellishing the home.

My new friend shared, “My husband says he must create.”

What wonderful expressions of God’s gifting of creativity.

How do express your creative gift? Maybe just a daydream? Or knitting, or mowing on the tractor as you enjoy outdoor basking.

Share your creative gift withus. And what is your favorite scape when outdoor basking.
