The Shulamite needs a new direction in life and determines to follow the Savior. But as she takes the first step on her journey she is filled with apprehension. Uncertainties bombard her mind and emotions. Can she really trust him? What if he takes her in the wrong direction? What will she have to give up?
Then she inquires of her Beloved, “Where do you feed your flocks? Do you rest and eat lunch at noon? And if so, where? Is there a designated rest stop? How long will this journey take?”
In reality she fears that she might miss her opportunity to follow her Beloved closely. What if she gets lost along the way? She’s afraid she’ll say something wrong, or worse yet, not being accepted by the others who have greater experience. All the other women and even some of the younger ones her age have it all together. She always feels awkward in new situations. Insecurities and anxiety rise in her spirit. But she hopes the Shepherd will provide good advice.
New Direction means Change
Despite her missgivings, she desires more than anything to rise above her feelings and no longer hide behind her veil of shame. A new purpose and direction would be nice. She is willing to seek him with all of her heart, mind, soul and strength.
She knows she needs to make changes in her life, but what will that mean?
The Good Shepherd’s Whisper
Come my Beloved, the path is narrow and difficult. Follow my trusted multitude of ministers who hear my voice and teach my truth. The Holy Spirits equips them with gifts to help disciple you on the long journey ahead. My servants feed my flocks in my church in reverent honor and praise me in spirit and truth.
My Beloved, as you follow in the footsteps of these shepherds, your responsibility is to nurture and feed the precious souls in your own flock and influence. Teach them my ways and principles.
Continue in my presence and find perfect rest when you cast all of your cares on me.
My Beloved are lovely and more beautiful than the highest paid model. You are like a pure-bred Arabian in ancient times. Hand chosen by the top equestrian breeders, that supplied the Pharaohs of Egypt.
My beloved your cheeks shine with my radiance. Receive my gifts, of gold necklaces to adorn your neck. My beloved you are precious in my sight.
Scriptures for Today
“Tell me, O you whom I love, where you feed your flock, where you make it rest at noon. For why should I be as one who veils herself by the flocks of your companions” (Song of Solomon 1:7 NKJV)?
So he answered and said, “ ‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your strength, and with all your mind,’ and ‘your neighbor as yourself.’ ” (Luke 10:27 NKJV).
Prayer for You Today
Beloved Child of God, may you seek and find the Lover of your Soul when you seek him with all your heart, mind, soul and strength. God bless you with peace and joy on your journey. Amen
