The Twelve Tide, also known as the Christmas Tide Continues. This week’s blog includes the Fourth Day and Fifth Day of Christmas.
Originally the Twelve Days of Christmas was written as a poem and later published in 1780. During the time period from 1558-1829 Catholics were persecuted in England. The Catholics used the poem to teach Biblical truths to children. The hidden meanings protected believers from persecution at this time.
Frederic Auston composed the tune we now sing in 1909.
The True Love giving the gifts is Christ, the Lover of our Soul.
The First Day of Christmas is the partridge in a pear tree, or Christ our Lord and Savior; God with us. The Second Day is Two Turtle Doves, or the Old and New Testament, and Day Three is Three French Hens representing hope, faith and love from 1st Corinthians 13, the love chapter.
As we wrap our minds around God’s goodness, next comes the Fourth Day of Christmas, which is four calling birds representing the four Gospels of Matthew, Mark, Luke and John. Each chapter is the author’s own rendition of Christ’s birth and life on earth. And each one an eye witness to Christ’s ministry and death on the cross.
The fifty day of the Twelve Tide our True Love gives the gift of Gold Rings representing the first five books of the Old Testament, or the Pentateuch. Also know as the Torah in the Jewish faith. The first five books are Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers and Deuteronomy.
Each of these treasures feed our faith in the darkness of the world, and bring hope, light and truth to mankind.
The Twelve Tide Day Four and Five: A Poem
The Twelve Tide tolls of Christian truths held dear within our hearts.
The partridge in a pear tree has come the first day of Christian Tide.
The true love brings on this fourth fay, Four Calling Birds, spreading God’s love far and wide. The hidden mystery contained are the four Gospels: Matthew, Mark, Luke and John. Each proclaims the testimony true of Christ and His life.
The Fifth Day of Christmas our true love gives to us Five Golden Rings. The riddle solved is the Pentateuch, God’s first books to those of the Jewish faith: Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers and Deuteronomy.
The rich gifts given bolster our faith as we live for Christ.
