The second week of Advent focuses on the Peace Candle. And, indeed Christ is the Prince of Peace.

The scripture often used this week is Isaiah 40:3-5:

“A voice of one calling: “In the wilderness prepare the way for the Lord;
make straight in the desert a highway for our God. Every valley shall be raised up,
every mountain and hill made low; the rough ground shall become level,
the rugged places a plain. And the glory of the Lord will be revealed,
and all people will see it together. For the mouth of the Lord has spoken.””

The voice in the wilderness is John the Baptist, who baptized those who repented for their sins in preparation of the coming Lord.

Heart Preparation

We too are on a journey to prepare our hearts for the coming King of Kings and Prince of Peace.

And I ask myself, are my paths straight? Or maybe they need some attention? And yes, I had a come to Jesus Meeting this morning.

God reminded me of his love and peace that he so lavishly demonstrates. In his grace he gives me what I need when I need it. Often his blessings are better than I can ask or think.

Moving on to another heart prep with the Christmas hymn: Oh, Holy Night by Placide Cappeau, Adolphe Adam, and John Sullivan Dwight

Truly He taught us to love one another;
His law is love and His gospel is peace.
Chains shall He break for the slave is our brother;
And in His name all oppression shall cease.
Sweet hymns of joy in grateful raise we,
Let all within us praise His holy name.

Christ is the Lord! O praise His Name forever,
His power and glory evermore proclaim.
O night divine, O night, O night divine.

Pray with me Today

Lord, prepare my heart to receive afresh the lavish gifts of Christmas: A baby boy in a manger that brings hope and peace. And God’s promise to give peace that passes all understanding. May God fill hearts with the Prince of Peace. Amen.

A thanksgiving
