Nothing says preparation like the Season of Lent. Christians often observe this season to prepare their hearts through prayer, fasting and repentance. Ultimately, it is a time of introspection and drawing closer to God. A time to identify with Christ and His death on the cross. Historically, Lent was a time for new Christians to prepare for baptism.

The Season of Lent begins on Ash Wednesday and ends on the Saturday before Easter, although some calendars are different. Sundays are not included in the forty days. Jesus spent 40 days in the wilderness preparing for His earthly ministry, hence the 40 days.

Personal Preparation during Lent

I come to God asking Him reveal and remove the things in me that are not pleasing in His sight. I come to the God of grace, mercy and love. Yes, Lent is a sobering season of reflection, repentance and ultimately spiritual renewal through Christ’s ultimate sacrifice on the Cross.

Facing my own character defects is much like getting out of my warm, cozy house in freezing temperatures to clean out my neglected garden. Getting started is often the hardest part. I’m surprised by new green growth hidden beneath winter debris. The tender growth ready to bloom with the sun’s warmth.

As I surrender what needs to be removed, God will be faithful in restoring the garden of my heart. He who began a good work in me with be faithful to complete it.

Bible Verse

Psalm 51:10-12 New International Version (NIV)

10 Create in me a pure heart, O God,
    and renew a steadfast spirit within me.
11 Do not cast me from your presence
    or take your Holy Spirit from me.
12 Restore to me the joy of your salvation
    and grant me a willing spirit, to sustain me.

Proverbs 24:27 Amplified Bible (AMP)
27
Prepare your work outside
And get it ready for yourself in the field;

Today’s Glory

My Beloved, as you come to me in the Garden of My Presence know that I am continually tending your heart with loving kindness. As you surrender your heart and will, you yield to my will, and I am able to give you a softened heart for others. The season of preparation is necessary to accomplish work in My Kingom and fruit bearing for others in need of My touch.
