The season of gratitude, Thanksgiving has arrived. And gratitude is always on the menu. Developing an attitude of gratitude as a daily exercise benefits our outlook on life and can add joy.
The conscious act of finding ten things to grateful for takes the focus off the bad things in life and helps us focus on the good.
Sometimes when life throws me a curve ball, or life is brimming with business, the temptation to complain creeps in. Yes, my cue to start a gratitude list. Some days my list is simple…
Gratitude list
- The sun is shining
- The birds are singing
- A friend
- Shelter
- Family
- Food in the pantry

My spirits are lifted a little higher by the time my list is complete.
This daily exercise can help train the mind to see all the goodness God has provided in life. Sometimes we all need a reminder that life is good, and God is good…all the time.
Psychologists have found that there are big benefits to this simple exercise. People were found to be happier and have improved relationships.
Scripture for Today
“Rejoice in the Lord always: again I will say, Rejoice. Let your [a]forbearance be known unto all men. The Lord is at hand. 6 In nothing be anxious; but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall guard your hearts and your thoughts in Christ Jesus” (Philippians 4:4-9 ASV).

Nanette, I agree — gratitude makes all the difference. I’ve been keeping a gratitude journal for years now. Sometimes I write just one thing per day, other times several. It’s a great record to have to look back on at times too!
Yes, Cheryl, a gratitude journal is a great idea!
