Amid the chaotic changes and responses to the current health crisis, one truth remains. God is in control. He continually invites us to turn to Him in need and crisis. He promises to be a very present help in time of trouble.
We can be reminded of the power of prayer that changed the course of history. Queen Esther called for prayer and fasting before she went before the king to plead for her nation. The parting of the Red Sea so that the Israelites could make safe passage out of Egypt. The Six-Day War giving Israel victory. And the list goes on.
As a home health nurse patients ask me if I think what is going on is really necessary. My reply is, “Yes. If we must take extra effort to keep our vulnerable elderly population safe from disease, then we must do our part. And if we can keep our health system from being more overwhelmed than it already is, then we have made progress.”
Imperfections arise as we attempt to limit the effects of a pandemic. As we navigate new guidelines and precautions we are learning much.
Our health system will learn to navigate a health crisis. Communities are working together. We are valuing our elderly. We are pulling together in difficult times to find solutions to a difficult situation. Hopefully we are learning patience as imperfections arise.
The Need for Prayer
Finally my hope is that we are learning about the power of prayer once again as a nation. May we feel our vulnerability and need for the God who is greater than any need that may arise. Let’s cry out on to the God who always hears and always answers. May God arise and show His power in the crisis we face as a nation and world wide.
Scriptures for the Day
“Seek and deeply long for the Lord and His strength [His power, His might];
Seek and deeply long for His face and His presence continually.“(Psalm 105:4 AMP)
“The heartfelt and persistent prayer of a righteous man (believer) can accomplish much [when put into action and made effective by God—it is dynamic and can have tremendous power].” (James 5:16 AMP)
Prayer for the Day
Father, we are desperate for you in the crisis at hand. Please lead, guide and direct the leaders of this nation. Give them wisdom and courage in the face of this threat. Let us humbly turn to you in our great need. Stop the spread of the corona virus. Help us to find medications to combat this disease. Please heal those who are already sick. Help us to have all the resources to combat this disease: ventilators, nurses, doctors, personal protective equipment and so much more. Protect the health care workers. Be with families as they shelter at home. Restore the economy. Restore us, oh God physically and spiritually. Amen.
