The gifts of Advent include faith, hope, joy, and love.

Advent is a time for us to prepare our heart for the coming of the Christ Child. Each week we look at the four gifts God provides.

If your church observes Advent, you may have celebrated the gift of joy this week. Like all gifts from God, they are lavish. Beyond human emotion.

Isaiah 51:11

“So the ransomed of the Lord shall return,
    and come to Zion with singing;
everlasting joy shall be upon their heads;
    they shall obtain joy and gladness,
    and sorrow and sighing shall flee away
(Isaiah 51:11, NRSV).

These wonderful words were spoken by Isaiah to Israel in a difficult time. But he reminded them that God would provide joy in their difficulties.

We too, experience difficult times in our harsh world. COVID-19 continues to be a threat. The down turned economy may contribute to financial hardship. Doubt, discouragement, fatigue and other crisis may confront us. Hearts may be heavy.

God’s Gift

But God provides a joy that no man can steal. A free gift.

Unwrap it. Recieve it. Experience His gift of delight.

Hallelujah. The joy of the Lord is our strength. We need that power. Amen.

 “But the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid; for behold, I bring you good news of great joy which will be for all the people. For this day in the city of David there has been born for you a Savior, who is Christ the Lord the Messiah” (Luke 2:10-11 AMP).

Prayer for Today

Father, many individuals are facing difficulties and hardships at this time. We thank you for the free gift of joy. May it manifest for those who are ill, experience depression and are facing other crisis in life. Let this gift warm hearts. May the fullness of Advent fill hearts this Christmas season. Provide power for difficult journeys. Amen.
