Storms arise out of nowhere at times. Spring is pretty much synonymous with storms and tornadoes in Oklahoma. Last night we had several storms roll through creating an unstable atmosphere. The result was widespread flooding and tornadoes. Several friends reported tornado sirens going off in town, which contributed to unsettled sleep.
I live out of town and slept through the rumble of thunder and lightning flashes. Since we live on a hill I was not aware of the copious amounts of rain that fell. Some surrounding areas got up to 12 inches. Lakes are several feet above normal, and several highways have been closed due to high water. The creeks in the area have swollen well beyond their banks flooding local roads.
But as i woke up I heard the birds chirping loudly. The gay orchestra of varied songs and tunes seemed perfected after the rain. The birds’ song demanded my full attention.
As I took a quick garden tour I noticed some new blooms. Thankfully nothing got washed away.
However the outcome is quite different in the areas that got severe flooding. Prayers are needed for all who have damage from the floods, tornadoes and high winds. Of course not just here in Oklahoma, but in all areas that have suffered from damaging weather.
Yes, storms seem to pop up out of nowhere at times. The bottom line is that the storms will pass. That’s true concerning life and the weather. The sun will again shine brightly, and the birds will chirp once again. God has been faithful through the tumult. His grace is sufficient in the storms of life. May he show Himself strong for those who have suffered loss through the storm.
Bible Verse
Matthew 8:23-27 Amplified Bible (AMP)
23 When He got into the boat, His disciples followed Him. 24 And suddenly a violent storm arose on the sea, so that the boat was being covered by the waves; but Jesus was sleeping. 25 And the disciples went and woke Him, saying, “Lord, save us, we are going to die!” 26 He said to them, “Why are you afraid, you men of little faith?” Then He got up and rebuked the winds and the sea, and there was [at once] a great and wonderful calm [a perfect peacefulness]. 27 The men wondered in amazement, saying, “What kind of man is this, that even the winds and the sea obey Him?”
2 Corinthians 1:4 New King James Version (NKJV)
4 who comforts us in all our tribulation, that we may be able to comfort those who are in any [a]trouble, with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God.
Prayer
Dear God,
We come to you at this time of epic flooding in the Midwest and South. Keep individuals safe and minimize damage. Allow the flood waters to quickly recede. We lift up all those who have had property loss and devastation, and ask that you would make a way where there seems to be no way. Restore our hope and allow any new storms to pass without further flooding or damage. Remind us that can trust you through the storm and that you will bring peace and calm. In Jesus name we pray, Amen.
