Hopelessness can surround us. Especially when trials arise in the form of a crisis, or even a lifestyle change. Change can be difficult. Or maybe the trial is a new path on our journey and we face a new unknown. Then there is the challenge of illness, cancer or caregiving that so many face.
And here in the Midwest, as well as other parts of the county, heavy rain has left fields waterlogged. High winds and tornados leave a path of destruction and tree damage.
Yet in the crisis we can cry to God like David did in Psalm 18. David was faced with destruction in a near death experience. But God delivered him from his enemies and Saul who threatened his life.
And certainly, our ever vigilant enemy, Satan seeks to lie, cheat and steal from us any way he can. Peter warns us to “Stay alert! Watch out for your great enemy, the devil. He prowls around like a roaring lion, looking for someone to devour” (1st Peter 5:8).
David cried out to God. God heard his desperate plea in this intimate picture of his cry reaching the temple of God in the heavenly spheres, and into God’s very ear.
God Hears the cries of His Followers
At times, we may wonder if God hears us. And the answer is yes. He hears our very cry. And the icing on the cake is that he knows before we ask. We can be assured that He hears and will answer.
And similar to David, God hears our prayer and answers us. God is a present help in times of trouble and He will never leave us nor forsake us.
The words of David are a comfort as we face troubles in our fallen world.
“The pangs of death surrounded me, and the floods of ungodliness made me afraid. The sorrows of Sheol surrounded me; The snares of death confronted me. In my distress I called upon the Lord, and cried out to my God; He heard my voice from His temple, and my cry came before Him, even to His ears” (Psalm 18:4-6 NKJV).
Prayer for You Today
Father, I lift up your faithful followers who face circumstances that seem insumountable. We ask that you would hear each cry and answer out of your grace and compassion for those who seek you. Amen

It’s always a blessing and a learning opportunity to look at Psalm 18.
Yes. By the time you finish reading it you are ready for the battle.
