Psalm 18 is full of adoration, prayer and gratitude. But most importantly an answer from Almighty God who shows up with all of His divine weapons. On David’s behalf, and ours as well. The Psalm bursts with the faithfulness of God.

And the verses rank as personal favorites throughout years of trials and tests. I know that God hears my cries. Always. Even if I don’t see the evidence immediately.

Psalm 18:1-7

“I love You fervently and devotedly, O Lord, my Strength. The Lord is my rock, my fortress, and my deliverer; my God, my keen and firm strength in whom I will trust and take refuge, my shield, and the horn of my salvation, my high tower. I will call upon the Lord, who is to be praised; so, shall I be saved from my enemies. The cords or bands of death surrounded me, and the streams of ungodliness and the torrents of ruin terrified me. The cords of Sheol, the place of the dead surrounded me; the snares of death confronted and came upon me. In my distress, when seemingly closed in, I called upon the Lord and cried to my God; He heard my voice out of His temple heavenly dwelling place, and my cry came before Him, into His very ears. Then the earth quaked and rocked, the foundations also of the mountains trembled; they moved and were shaken because He was indignant and angry.”

A Trial and Fear

Many times this scripture has given me an unknown strength from God. Mostly because I know He loves me and cares enough about me to hear my cry.

At one point I had this beautiful Psalm committed to memory. I was attempting a new career path that did not work out. As I commuted to work I recited the comforting words. The environment was too stressful for me, and I was surrounded by many strong personalities.

A Different Path

The fear was too great and I started writing instead. A great choice for myself.

And yes, I consider that an awesome answer to my cries for help.

In verse 19 it says that “He brought me out into a broad place;
He rescued me because He was pleased with me and delighted in me”
(Psalm 18:19 AMP).

Through all of this I learned the power of prayer, adoration and a grateful heart. And the power of God to meet me in the trial, and trust that He is fighting for me.

What is the Trial you are Facing?

We all have issues and trials. And if you aren’t in one right now, your may confront one soon. Be sure you read the entire Chapter. He loves you and He is fighting for you, my friend.

Prayer for You Today

Child of God, may the God of all power and might meet you in your need as you cry out to Him. Amen.
