Maximus

The New Year arrives with the opportunity for new thing—a fresh start. Letting of the old and making groom for the new. All of Christ’s plans for us.

The New Year is blank. Maybe you need a new beginning? And hope for the coming days?

The three kings

or wise men in the Christmas account were also seeking something new, as the Star of Bethlehem appeared in the sky. They found what they were looking for as the star stopped where the Christ child was. They indeed went home with hope and a new beginning in their hearts.

Thankfully Jesus specializes in fresh starts. We all have things that separate us from the Savior.

For instance…

Sometimes my busy too schedule distracts from what’s important. And my priorities get skewed.

One relationship I neglected was with my favorite dog, Maximus. He is a ten-month-old, large, German Shepherd puppy. Over the holidays, as company came and went, the obedience training got neglected, and so did my playful spirit.

My impatience with his disobedience was noticed by my husband. He pointed out that Maximus may not be listening because I hurt his tender puppy feelings and he might be avoiding me.

Ouch. That’s not good when I’m supposedly his favorite human.

Time to refocus on play time with Maximus and a better tone of voice. Along with retraining myself in issues of dog obedience. Deep down I knew his problem of disobedience were really my own fault.

Today, Maximus and went for a long walk, which he loves. Play was a priority too. Two things that benefit both of us.

What else might the Lord bring in the New Year? I am anxious to see.

My prayers of gratitude can focus on the good in the past year, as I wait for direction in the coming year.

Gratitude is always a good place to start.

Prayer for You Today

As the New Year arrives, I pray for blessings of guidance and peace on your journey. If you need joy or hope, my prayer is for God to provide it. Father, I pray for new beginnings in this new year. And a fresh start in the coming days. Amen.

  1. Nanette, your honesty is refreshing. I’m sure Maximus and you will benefit from that time spent together. We truly are better together.

    1. Yes we are Linda. Maximus is benefiting greatly with improved behavior, and I’m not frustrated. Another lesson in changing myself. Certainly a life lesson I can apply to all my relationships. 🙂
