As followers of Christ, training is a continual process. God’s ways are much higher than ours, and our fallen nature requires God’s full attention. Growth in the right direction is God’s primary focus once we accept Christ into our lives.
Training over time helps us let go of every sin that easily takes us off the path God sets before us. We learn and overcome temptations of our flesh that separate us from the God who created us.
As storms arise and difficult circumstances confront us in our weakness, we learn to abide, and draw on God’s strength, and trust him with all of our heart.
On a personal note, my own struggle is with anxiety and the inconvenient, uncomely fearful reactions that seem to take over when out of my comfort zone.
Recently I started a new job. And right along came the old familiar tension that threatened to steal life itself. Accompanied by accelerated breathing, pounding heart rate, self-doubt. Then irrationally beating myself up due to unrealistic expectations of perfection.
Yes, fearful reactions far from God’s provision of peace.
But this time my morning quiet time started with putting on the armor of God. Yet my weakness shattered the veil of God’s reality when the job started. My anxiety grew to the point I called the Dr and asked for a new anti-anxiety medication. The prescription filled and available in the event that the transition to the new opportunity became unbearable.
Each day my prayer remained, “Lord, help me overcome this anxiety.”
Over time the anxiety subsided. The fearful reactions no longer needed. The faux power behind them gone.
Oh, and I did not have to take the new medication. 🙂
Today I am grateful, and enjoy my job. God is good. All the time.
God’s Whisper
“Come, My Beloved. Come and abide. The plans I have for you are good, filled with blessings and hope. Each trial and temptation hold opportunity to trust in my Divine provision. As you overcome through my strength you approach new glory in Christ. Your walk with me is closer. Another promise fulfilled.
My grace and mercy are new every morning. Falling sort of my glory is part of your frail humanity. But through my strength and power I equip you to finish the race that stretches before you. Continue in trust and faith. Cast each care upon me as you approach the next difficulty, knowing that a new glory awaits.
Glorify me and praise me daily on the journey of abiding.“
Scriptures for Today
“The temptations in your life are no different from what others experience. And God is faithful. He will not allow the temptation to be more than you can stand. When you are tempted, he will show you a way out so that you can endure” (1 Corinthians 10:13 NLT).
“Now all glory to God, who is able to keep you from falling away and will bring you with great joy into his glorious presence without a single fault” (Jude 1:24 NLT).
