Happiness is a Cup of Coffee
Happiness is a cup of coffee on the porch as the sunshine invites me out of doors. A light jacket necessary in the cool, crisp breeze.
The now green grass and a blue-sky horizon are a feast to my gaze. Perhaps I’m turning into a fair-weather gardener, or maybe the temps the past month were lower than normal, not quite to my liking. Actually, weather conditions don’t have to please me like I think they should.
And we certainly need rain to keep any drought at bay.
But today is a just right day in the country. Phlox, tulips and narcissus share cheery blooms in the early spring landscape. Reminders that spring arrives right on time to gardeners who appreciate flower gardens and anticipate planting season.
Creeping phlox are an old timey favorite and easy to grow. They provide an early spring carpet of compact flowers ranging from pink to various purples. The plants burgeon just after blooming is complete. My original plant came in a six-inch pot. Division several times over, now provides a nice border for flower beds.
For best results in dividing your plant, dig up the root ball, cut it in half with a sharp knife and replant the original plant in the same spot. Leave some spacing for the other root mass to take root, and water well.
Depending on your growing zone, blossoms my burst forth near Easter. Plant those tulips and narcissus alongside for an early spring show.
Don’t forget the coffee.
Prayer for You Today
Father, I lift up your loved one today. As the flowers bloom in the garden, I ask that you would provide your loving presence, peace and joy. Amen.
