Happiness is riding a beach cruiser one block to the endless bike trail in Kill Devil Hills and beyond. The one speed bike a true simple pleasure with a guaranteed flashback to childhood and those first faux flights on two wheels. Fun. An immediate smile and be sure you remember to pedal backward to brake. The wind in your face and a new adventure ahead. A slow pace to ensure the scenic view is enjoyed.
The new sights include bright colored houses on stilts. Hurricane ready. Each style cuter than the last, and each with an inviting balcony for morning coffee, or any time at all. That last house my favorite: a two story, yellow with white trim. But what’s ahead? Oh, a cute gray and white and next door a green followed by a blue. Varied shades of rainbow colors keep my attention.
A potent waft of honeysuckle meets my nostrils, demanding complete attention and a deep breath through the nose to savor the intoxicating scent. The tiny white flowers with profuse blossoms exhibit a laid back growth habit. The beach a perfect habitat.
Endless outdoor fun. Then ending the day with a quick ride to the pier to see the sunset over the sound. Not a wave in sight. Clouds float in front of the sun for a picture perfect scene as the bright sun beams glimmer toward earth.
I bet you are ready for that break to the Outer Banks. Have fun, my friend.
Scripture for Today
“No wonder my heart is glad,
and my tongue shouts his praises!
My body rests in hope” (Acts 2:26 NLT).
