Today is international dog day. This special day commemorates man’s best friend worldwide. A great day to celebrate that bundle of joy that meets you when you drive up the driveway or come in after a long day day at work.
Dogs are special and deserve a little TLC. Our pets depend on us for care and nurture. Dogs, like their human companions need special care every day. That includes a nutritional diet, flea and tick prevention, and routine grooming to name a few. A routine check with the vet is good practice too.
They perform best when taught great manners through obedience training.
Maximus loves to go on walks. But better than that he loves the praise received from a job well done. After intense obedience training, he heels without a lead. And comes quickly on command. Sometimes he’s still a little slow to sit. (Looks like we need to polish him up around the edges).
He keeps cool on hot Oklahoma days by swimming in his water tank. Tug-of-war is a favorite game which he easily wins. And he likes to play fetch for just a few ball tosses. Then he’s content to lay down and chew on his toys.
He’s also a great watch dog, and a joyful companion.
Today’s a good day to celebrate Maximus.

Scripture for Today
“Then God said, “Let the earth produce every sort of animal, each producing offspring of the same kind—livestock, small animals that scurry along the ground, and wild animals.” And that is what happened.God made all sorts of wild animals, livestock, and small animals, each able to produce offspring of the same kind. And God saw that it was good” (Genesis 1:24-25 NLT).
