Mark 4:26-29 New Revised Standard Version (NRSV)
The Parable of the Growing Seed
26 He also said, “The kingdom of God is as if someone would scatter seed on the ground, 27 and would sleep and rise night and day, and the seed would sprout and grow, he does not know how. 28 The earth produces of itself, first the stalk, then the head, then the full grain in the head. 29 But when the grain is ripe, at once he goes in with his sickle, because the harvest has come.”
A Million Tiny Seeds
What can be better than planting seeds on a mission trip. Especially when the mission trip is to beautiful Copper Canyon, Mexico. The Methodist Church established a medical clinic in Pitorreal, Mexico in 1999. The clinic provides basic medical services to the Tarahumaran Indians living in the area. These people lead very simple, primitive lifestyles. The Tarahumarans usually have small rancheros which provide basic food staples for their families. Each ranchero has a corn field, goats, sometimes pigs, and usually an apple tree and possibly a peach tree.
Our mission team was able to worm goats and pigs. We also provide eye exams to children and some adults providing them with glasses if needed. All the children got sunglasses as well. We also taught Bible School to the children, and had church services for the adults. A chapel for worship was need which we were able to build in our short time there. Our team was planting seeds with love and bathed in prayer.
Our efforts initially seemed small in comparison to the dire needs of the Tarahumaran Indians. Poverty, alcoholism, need for clean drinking water, and the need for continued quality medical care are just a few of the obvious necessities. But seeds contain power packed growth potential that cannot be overlooked.
Seeds are amazing. Seeds are tiny powerhouses of potential waiting to sprout and grow to maturity. Of coarse, the seeds must be planted before a harvest can occur. Once the seeds are sown the miracle begins. This is true on the mission field as well.
Mission teams have been planting a million tiny seeds full of life-giving potential since 1991. Salvation, hope, and the Light of the Gospel have been planted and are taking root in Pitorreal, Mexico. Hearts and lives have been touched by Gods love and grace. The Lord of the Harvest brings forth the miracle of growth and fruition to the planted seeds in His timing and grace.
Thank you for being a part of the mission team and for planting seeds in Cooper Canyon. I thank God for you and the other brothers and sisters in Christ who are willing to be in service to God!
Going on the mission trip was such a blessinng to me! I loved it and the people!
