Christmas of 2020 may be different for most of us. COVID-19 mars the holiday. Many lives have been changed in it’s devastating wake. Lives lost, grieving hearts, empty chairs, and smaller crowds.

Despite the chaos and COVID, Christmas approaches.

Mary and Joseph faced many uncertainties before the Baby Jesus arrived. Difficult travel in the last trimester of pregnancy. No vacancy at the inn. What was going through Mary’s mind and heart? Was there doubt, and thoughts of what if?

She too, was preparing for the Christ Child. Giving birth in an unsanitary stable. God’s will being done. A mystery unfolding.

Despite the adverse conditions Mary birthed the Savior in a manger. The baby who would save us from our sin and reconcile us to God the Father.

Yes, the miracle of Christmas came during chaos and uncertainty. Our God still in control.

Wherever this holiday finds us, Christ our Savior is ever present.

Have we made room for Him in our heart? Do we need some Christmas joy?

Perhaps it is simply wrapped in swaddling clothes lying in a manger.

If you are needing hope, joy and peace this holiday, ask Jesus who gives us this gift whenever we ask.

My prayer is that your holiday, whether complicated by COVID or other certainties will be blessed by the Baby Jesus who came for difficulties exactly like what you are facing.

Scripture for Today

And so it was that while they were there, the days were accomplished that she should be delivered. And she brought forth her firstborn Son, and wrapped Him in swaddling clothes and laid Him in a manger, because there was no room for them in the inn.(Luke 2:6-7).

Prayer for Today

Father, I pray for all those who are experiencing loss, grief, or depression during this Christmas season. Please manifest your love, joy and peace in hurting hearts. Amen.
