Many are called to care in the world of Covid-19. Our world invaded by the hostile takeover. Many have lost jobs and income. Some have lost loved ones as the virus sweeps the nations.
Then there are those who have headed into hot spots to help areas that are short staffed. Two of my friends have headed to Chicago. One is a nurse, the other is an EMT.
Donna, the RN headed out, leaving her two children behind. Choosing to put herself in harms way in the high-risk area, suitcases brimmed with hand-made personal protective equipment (PPE). Hats and masks crafted by other caring individuals stepping up to provide for dire need.
Donna prepares for her longer than twelve-hour shift with prayer.
She affirms that people are dying daily in the wake of the stealthy virus. Selflessly cares for people who are scared and desperate for a hand to hold in an uncertain environment with questionable outcome.
One gentleman told her that he knew she was not from Chicago. Erroneously she was sure her Okie accent was the give away. Instead he said “I could see that you are here to save lives, unlike others who have been caring for me.” A gold nugget for the weary nurse.
Donna has a gripping commitment: “There is nothing better than people caring for people. I intend to always show up, God willing. The results of Covid are heartbreaking.”
Another selfless servant is Michelle. She is an EMT responsible for transporting Covid positive individuals to dialysis. Her desire is to serve and glorify God in this and all situations. She perseveres despite PPE that is cheap and flimsy, hoping the protection is not breached by some mishap. Her commitment is to go where she is needed in this desperate fight against an unseen enemy.
Countless others just like Michelle and Donna travel to hard hit areas lending time and talents. Or perhaps a Lowes employee had donned a mask to assist the many individuals at home looking for a creative project.
Yes our world has changed, but hearts open to help wherever needed. What a refreshing response to the current crisis.
Don the Armor of God and stay safe. my friend.
Scripture for Today
” Put on God’s whole armor [the armor of a heavy-armed soldier which God supplies], that you may be able successfully to stand up against [all] the strategies and the deceits of the devil. 12 For we are not wrestling with flesh and blood [contending only with physical opponents], but against the despotisms, against the powers, against [the master spirits who are] the world rulers of this present darkness, against the spirit forces of wickedness in the heavenly (supernatural) sphere. 13 Therefore put on God’s complete armor, that you may be able to resist and stand your ground on the evil day [of danger], and, having done all [the crisis demands], to stand [firmly in your place].” (Ephesians 6:11-13 AMPC)
Prayer for Today
Father, hear our prayer for healing for those who have Covid-19. Strengthen each worker near and far who is caring for sick individuals. Provide food to those who find themselves without income. Grant wisdom to our leaders as they grapple with new situations and difficult decisions. We as for your boundless love and grace in this grave time. Thank you for the armor that you provide for us. Keep us safe and healthy. Amen.
God’s Response
My Beloved, as you dress in the impenetrable armor I have given you, Praise my name. Bow in humble adoration for all that I am dong through your weak frame. Be strengthened by the Lion of Judah who roars at the cowering enemy. Fear not. I have gone before you. Be filled with my love which casts out all fear. Love all those before you with my boundless love. Yes, My beloved I am teaching you to bend your bow of bronze. Release my arrows toward the bullseye of your aim. Glorify me in this hour. Bless all whom your hands touch. Love, The Father
