Does Fear Ever Help in a Crisis?

Fear looms large in the face of Covid-19. Health care providers and other essential workers face the silent foreboding threat daily.

The puzzling germ on surfaces, lurking unseen in the air.

The constant question: are we doing enough? Was there a breach in my cleaning technique or personal protective equipment? Oh no, I’ve touched my face.

Fear can take me on a wild emotional ride. Like a 4 G roller coaster, fear can jerk me this way, then lurch the other. Oh no straight down and into a curly q turning my fragile world upside down.

Fear can make me react irrationally. Do unthinkable things. Make a mistake. Yes, fear at one time in my life was a constant companion.

Now my choice is different. My focus must change. I choose to believe that God is with me and will never leave me nor forsake me.

God reminds us in His word to fear not.

In our fragile existence we need to hear and remind ourselves and others that God is our refuge and strength. A very present help n time of trouble.

My faith in God calms fear that my mind can magnify. God can help those mountains become molehills.

Our lives are fragile. Especially now. We are vulnerable. We feel powerless.

God knows our frail state. We are like grass that withers. Yet His love, mercy and grace are boundless.

Essential workers are rising up in hope and going to work in the face of the silent enemy.

God is with us in this crisis. He is Emanuel, God with us.

The tomb is empty. My savior lives. Through Him we will do valiantly.

We are hidden with Christ in God. Run into His loving arms of peace and strength. Find your hope for today.

Scripture for Today

“For [as far as this world is concerned] you have died, and your [new, real] life is hidden with Christ in God. When Christ, Who is our life, appears, then you also will appear with Him in [the splendor of His] glory. 5 So kill (deaden,  [a]deprive of power) the evil desire lurking in your members [those animal impulses and all that is earthly in you that is employed in sin]: sexual vice, impurity, sensual appetites, unholy desires, and all greed and covetousness, for that is idolatry (the deifying of self and other created things instead of God).”(Colossians 3:3-5 AMP).

Prayer for Today

Father,  We come to you with desperation, and yes, fear at the crisis we face. Please replace our fear with faith. Reassure us with you Holy Spirit that you are with us. That you will never leave us nor forsake us. Lead us through this Covid-19 crisis. Help each person who is infected, quarantined or working. You are above every name we can name, including Covid-19. Amen.

God’s Whisper

Come to the garden of my Presence. Be filled to overflowing with all that I have for you today.

Fear not. I am with you and will never leave you nor forsake you. Come with urgency. Come expectant. Seek me in this season. My grace is sufficient in this day and whatever your dire circumstance. Be still and know that I am God. Rest in my peace, love and grace.
