Happiness is starting the day in Psalms. The book contains a wide range of topics to capture all the emotions we encounter as humans during our earth walk. Anger, grief and desprate cries for help. And add to that a scripture to help us turn our hearts and minds toward the God who cares and hears each cry. Weather we need help or bring praise to God, the psalms covers vast territory.
A Short Study in Psalms
Our pastor has been teaching and preaching on the Psalms and added a challenge to memorize Psalm 100. The short passage brings the memorizer or (reader) immediately into praise for God. The psalmist begins with prompts for the inhabitants of all lands to come before Gode with singing, and then to serve God with gladness. Imagine that. What a day that will be when all lands join in His praise.
I don’t know about you, but I already have a smile on my face and gratitude in my heart. A new day begins and I get to serve the God who loves me infinitely.
Definitely a great way to start the day with singing and praise to God. The Psalmists then reminds us that we are God’s, made by Him. I’m now the right size with God large and in charge. Humbled as I come, and reminded that I belong and am nurtured and cared for by my shepherd God who leads and guides continually.
The procession now brings the reader through His gates (still singing) and into God’s courts with praise.
Finally, I enter into His presence. What joy. I bring thanksgiving, and tell Him so. He deserves all my praise.
God is good all the time and his mercy and goodness are for all of us—and to each generation. Even the present one and God is here with us in this present darkness that threatens the world daily. God is bigger and His light shines brighter. Amen.
A Psalm of Thanksgiving
“Shout with joy to the Lord, all the earth!
Worship the Lord with gladness.
Come before him, singing with joy.
Acknowledge that the Lord is God!
He made us, and we are his.
We are his people, the sheep of his pasture.
Enter his gates with thanksgiving;
go into his courts with praise.
Give thanks to him and praise his name.
For the Lord is good.
His unfailing love continues forever,
and his faithfulness continues to each generation” (Psalm 100 NLT).
Prayer for You Today
Beloved of God. I pray that your day would be filled with the peace and love that God gives freely. If your heart is grieved, may you find His comfort. If you are confused, may He guide your thoughts. And may you have a heart filled with praise for His name on this day that He has made. Amen.
